he Gros family has been making excellent wine in Burgundy since the early 1800s when Alphonse Gros married Madame Latour and acquired their first parcels of vines in Vosne-Romanee. Today we would like to introduce you to a very interesting and mysterious 1er Cru plot located in the northeast corner of Romanee-St-Vivant called "La Croix Rameau". La Croix Rameau is a very small (only 0.6ha) and relatively unknown Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru and its history is vague but a lot of historical information ties the plot to Romanee-St-Vivant, speculating that it was once part of this world famous appellation. Established in 1955 by Claude and Marie-Thérèse, Domaine Claude Dugat is a small family-run domaine and is widely considered one of the top producers in Gevrey-Chambertin. The domaine practises sustainable viticulture so they never use fertilisers or herbicides. They harvest grapes when they are just ripe, which is determined solely by taste instead of lab analysis, and thus creating wines that are fresh but also concentrated and intense thanks to the old-age vines. Meursault produces some of the finest white wines in Burgundy, with nearly 400ha of wine producing area with 97% being used for white wines and the rest for reds. The wines of Meursault glorify the art of Chardonnay and nowhere in the Cote de Beaune does the Chardonnay grape do better than it does in Meursault.
