A very new domaine in Burgundy but not unfamiliar names, Arnaud et Sophie was established by husband-and-wife duo Arnaud Sirugue and Sophie Noëllat, both from celebrated Vosne-Romanée estates - Robert Sirugue and Michel Noëllat respectively. With its origin dating back to 1928 when the Mercier family established itself in Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine de Chezeaux owns nearly 60% of Griotte-Chambertin - the largest owner - and also Clos St-Denis, Chambertin as well as some parcels of Gevrey Premier Cru; however, the Domaine does not make any wines but instead the holdings are all farmed and produced by others, which is called a "en metayage" and those who "farm" the land are called the "metayers". Kumeu River is probably the next best Chardonnay producer outside of Burgundy. From New Zealand, a "new world" wine region, they participated in a blind tasting by fourteen wine professionals in 2015 against some of the top Burgundy producers such as Comte des Lafon, Etienne Sauzet, Domaine Leflaive and Joseph Drouhin and they submitted 4 styles in the 2012 vintage in which Kumeu River scored the highest in 3 of the 4 flights and tied in the last flight - leading to get the highest overall score.
