Meursault produces some of the finest white wines in Burgundy, with nearly 400ha of wine producing area with 97% being used for white wines and the rest for reds. The wines of Meursault glorify the art of Chardonnay and nowhere in the Cote de Beaune does the Chardonnay grape do better than it does in Meursault. Whilst there are no Grand Crus in Meursault, there are 19 Premier Crus in which many are world-renowned climats such as Charmes, Goutte d'Or, and Perrieres. The style of white Meursault typically has a clear oak influence, and the wines are often described to be "buttery" - a round and creamy-feeling - with the smell of vanilla, butter, coconut and dill.
