Tasted and Recommended: 1999 Lanson Gold Label Vintage
Tasted last night and it ticks most of the boxes to be a fantastically aged Champagne, it delivers maximum drinking pleasure today and is an exotic bottle combines with fresh and aged notes. The finish is simply breathtaking.
Lanson is a Champagne house that has maintained remarkable consistency and has been making astonishing efforts to build their portfolio since it was established in 1760. They have a unique house style of stopping malolactic fermentation, shaping their wines to be age-worthy and fresh. Their compelling non-vintage Champagne is characterized using a Black Label and vintage Champagne using a Gold Label in which they are only produced in the best vintages. All grapes are sourced from Grand Cru fruits with a general equal balance of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The Gold Label Vintage comes with a blend of 49% Chardonnay and 51% Pinot Noir and are made of wines from some of the most prestigious villages, including Avize, Cramant, Chouilly, le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Verzenay, Verzy. Stepping into mid-20s of its age, it starts to hit full maturity and is definitely worth adding a couple of cases to the cellar.
