The owner Hiro Kusuda started as a lawyer and later became a diplomat which granted him opportunities to travel the world and opened his eyes to wine. After years of travelling, he decided he wanted to set up his own vineyard in Martinborough, New Zealand. He first went to school in Germany to learn all about winemaking before he took on various jobs at vineyards in New Zealand, Australia as well as in Burgundy to get more hands-on experience....

Now Arrived! Mature Vougeraie Charmes-Chambertin Les Mazoyeres Grand Cru
Though the two Grand Crus Charmes-Chambertin and Mazoyeres-Chambertin are neighbours, many producers only name their wines to be Charmes-Chambertin even though part of their grapes are from Mazoyeres. It is debatable whether the two terroirs have much differences but Dugat Py for one separates the two parcels clearly as Charmes-Chambertin and Mazoyeres-Chambertin. Dugat Py believes Mazoyeres is even a better terroir than Charmes-Chambertin. Likewise, Domaine de la Vougeraie is another example that believes in the Mazoyeres terroir - labelling the wines as “Charmes-Chambertin les Mazoyeres” ("les Mazoyeres" because they only own a tiny 0.74 hectares in Mazoyeres but still find it worthy...

Philipponnat Clos des Goisses is the best kept secret in Champagne – a single vineyard plot which spreads over 5.5 hectares, planted with around 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay. The plot of vineyard has been separated into 16 individual plots with different ages of vines. It is unique compared to any other single vineyard in Champagne as it is south-facing on an extremely steep slope, making the fruits - hence the wines produced - extra fruity and rich in flavour.
