🇺🇸Special Offer: The Beaux Freres Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021

A winery co-owned by world renowned wine critic Robert Parker, Beaux Frères  is one of the earliest and now leading wineries in Oregon. It is a 36-hectare plot in Ribbon Ridge, a small sub-region in Oregon's Willamette Valley which was purchased in 1986 by Robert and his brother-in-law Michael G. Etzel. Being smaller than the surrounding landscapes, Ribbon Ridge enjoys shelter from the prevailing weather systems and is slightly warmer and drier as well as having steadier and more consistent climate than other vine growing areas in northern Willamette; and the ancient, weathered soil in the area generates lower yields thus higher quality grapes. All of which allows for the creation of poised and elegant wines with a good balance of acidity and richness. Like the nearby Dundee Hills and McMinnville AVAs, Ribbon Ridge is enjoying a steadily growing reputation for the high quality of its red wines, despite its relatively short history as a wine-growing region.

The Beaux Frères estate now encompasses two vineyards - the original Beaux Frères vineyard and the adjacent Upper Terrace vineyard. The Beaux Frères vineyard is situated on 30 acres of steep, contiguous southeast, south and southwest facing hillsides, 400ft above sea level in which planting of Pinot Noir with a mixture of Pommard, Wädenswil and newer Dijon clones began in 1988, making the oldest vines in the vineyard now at 13 years of age; and the Upper Terrace parcel is just north and at a slightly higher elevation than the Beaux Freres vineyard, and has been planted with Dijon clones of Pinot Noir since 2000.

The wines of Beaux Frères are made with similar technique as Burgundians, with minimal handling and are aged in French oak barrels for 10-12 months. The wines are made in a reductive style, which means they are intentionally minimized from exposure to oxygen, a process which protects the aromatics; and they are not moved in the cellar until bottling which allows the use of far less sulphur than most other wines thus enabling them to better preserve the character of their terroir, the personality of the vintage, and the quality of the wine. Wines can be drunk young which are joyful, fresh and lovely, but they are also able to age well for a decade and more. Past vintages have been high up on the lists of top Oregon Pinot Noirs so it is extremely hard to get one's hands on their wines.

Medium ruby-purple, the 2021 Pinot Noir The Beaux Frères Vineyard opens slowly on the nose to a core of wild blackberry and blueberry, revealing tones of forest floor, licorice, bitters and floral potpourri as it spends time in the glass. The light-bodied palate is soft and juicy with surprisingly concentrated flavors for its delicate frame, and it has a long, floral finish. This is elegant, expressive and easy to drink!
