“Prévost's tiny estate named La Closèrie nonetheless produces some of the most sought-after wines in Champagne—and some of my personal favorites.” – William Kelley
La Closerie was established in 1987 by Jérôme Prévost, who inherited the 2 ha vineyards from his grandmother which is known as Les Béguines. Jérôme's grandmother didn’t cultivate the vines herself but rented them out instead. Jérôme then worked on the vines himself as he took over, and sold his grapes out to the negoce, but a few years later, he considered producing his own wines. As he did not have any winemaking experience, he decided to work at Jacques Selosse under Anselme Selosse as a trainee. With Anselme's encouragement, he started working on his own wines from 1998 and released his first wine in 2001, in which Selosse shared a corner of his cellar in Avize as Jérôme did not have facilities of his own back then. It was not until 2002 that he acquired his own cellar in Gueux.
The mighty estate started to produce a new cuvee from 2021, the NV Extra Brut & which is a blend with 20% Les Beguines wines and other sites in Gueux which share the same calcareous sands and clays soil. The wines are fermented in barrels, and there is about 20% of reserve wine to offer more structure as the backbone. It’s one of the best Pinot Meunier producers in Champagne and we are delighted to offer:
Jerome Prevost La Closerie '&' Extra Brut NV (LC21)
HK$1,580 per bottle
Special Offer:
HK$1,450 per bottle if you purchase 3 bottles or above
94pts William Kelley
Offering up aromas of pear, red apple, walnuts, fresh bread and mandarin, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and vinous, with a fleshy core of fruit and a saline finish. While it's produced from purchased grapes, Prévost farms some of the sites and determines the date of harvest and sorting, though he told me that the average yield is naturally a touch higher than in his own vineyards. (LC18)
Subject to final confirmation. Immediately available. Special offer available until 15th Feb 2024.
Delivery is free-of-charge for single purchase above HK$3,000 or 6 bottles (or accumulated amount at time of delivery); otherwise, a standard delivery fee of HK$100 applies.
