Though the family has been cultivating vines for seven generations, Domaine Michel Bouzereau was only registered in 1971. The Domaine has approximately 11 hectares of vineyards which are divided between the appellations of Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Volnay, Pommard and Beaune, but they focus predominantly on chardonnay production. Michel Bouzereau was an advocate for traditional methods in winemaking and was very careful in the use of new oak to ensure the true expression of the fruits and terroir. His son Jean-Baptiste took over in 1999 and continued to follow his father's traditional methods but has applied some of his own approaches which has pushed the Domaine to new heights. He has been de-budding to reduce yields, going chemical-free in the vineyard, harvesting by hand and using only native yeasts - all done meticulously to create pure and elegant wines which remain traditional in style with great potential to age. They are benchmark examples for each cru and are amazingly well-priced. In 2008, Jean-Baptiste purchased a new building which enabled him to install modern equipment and has since further enhanced the quality of his wines.
