Two Mature Parcels of Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatieres 1er Cru
The son-in-law of Etienne Sauzet, Gérard Boudot, started managing the 12-hectare Domaine since 1975 and now manages it together with his daughter Emilie and her husband Benoit Riffault. Gérard Boudot makes their wines with appropriate migration with oak, and their 1er Crus and Grand Crus are usually kept in oak barrels for 18 months. Etienne Sauzet’s wines often achieve great balance given the complexity of the wines and produce refined Chardonnay with weight and volume for aging. Since 2006, they have farmed their vineyards organically and switched to biodynamic cultivation since 2010. Their bourgogne and village wines are elegant and stylish while their 1er Cru and Grand Cru wines are concentrated and well balanced; and are some of the most sought-after wines from Puligny-Montrachet.
Etienne Sauzet’s Les Folatieres is one of the classic cuvee of the domaine, a fantastic 1er Cru, it comes from a parcel in the sub-climat En la Richarde plus another in Folatières proper toward Champ Gain at the very top of the vineyard. And that their vine age is 30+ years and it was aged in 1/3 new oak. We are delighted to offer two mature parcel of Vintage 2001 and 2010 today, photos are available on request -
Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatieres 1er Cru 2001
HK$1,250 per bottle
9 available, ETA 1 week
90pts Allen Meadows
Not as ripe as the Perrières but finer and not nearly as ripe with elegant, very pure, essence of limestone and white fruit aromas introducing subtle, beautifully precise and delineated medium full flavors of obvious breed. This finishes with palate staining intensity and first class length. Hands down the best wine to this point.
Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatieres 1er Cru 2010
HK$1,600 per bottle
6 available, ETA 4-6 week
91-93pts Allen Meadows “Outstanding”
Note: from a parcel in the sub-climat En la Richarde plus another in Folatières proper toward Champ Gain at the very top of the vineyard; vine age is 30+ years and it was aged in 1/3 new oak
A beautifully complex nose features hints of pear, white peach, acacia blossom and mineral reduction. The mineral character also completely informs the chiseled, intense and tension-filled flavors that culminate in a citrusy, austere, bone dry and saline finish. This is terrific and absolutely textbook Folatières.
Subject to final confirmation.
