The Best Viognier In The World: Well Priced 2006 Chateau-Grillet Not To Be Missed!
We would like to introduce a world-famous white which you shouldn’t miss (and almost impossible to buy nowadays).
Back in the 1930s, the celebrated French writer and gastronome Curnonsky identified five white wines as the finest in the world: (1) Le Montrachet in Burgundy; (2) Château d’Yquem in Bordeaux; (3) Château Chalon in Jura; (4) Clos de la Coulée de Serrant in Loire; last but not the least, (5) Chateau Grillet which was included in an individual appellation, a monopole and a single variety – Viognier.
The property is now owned by Artémis nowadays who also own a few respected wineries such as Château Latour in Bordeaux, Domaine d’Eugenie and Clos de tart in Burgundy. The vineyards are only 3.5 hectares, with a unique terroir which are able to produce the best Viognier in the world. It is very aromatic with charming and concentrated tropical fruits flavours, which set into one of the best white wines not to be missed when it is available in the market -

Scented and heady. Smoky too. Lovely and complete – much more interesting than the average Condrieu. Dubourdieu started in 2002. Really nerveux and dried apricots. Fresh yet replete and reverberant on the finish, so long.
