Deutz is a Champagne house with German origins, founded in 1838 by two Prussian immigrants, William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann. Acquired by Louis Roederer in 1993, the house now owns 42 hectares of vineyard and has an extensive sourcing network for grapes. With the financial assistance from the Roederer powerhouse, Deutz has become one of the largest Champagne houses nowadays.  According to Champagne specialist and writer Tom Stevenson, the house's style is "firm, flavor-packed yet full of character”. One of their most notable productions is "Amour de Deutz", named after the statue of Cupid that stands in Deutz's courtyard in Aÿ, made from the best lots of the house and is a highly-regarded prestige cuvee.

The 2009 Brut Millésimé Amour de Deutz is laced with white flowers, mint, white pepper and citrus peel, all of which give it terrific brightness and energy to play off the natural radiance of the year. Medium in body and aromatically deep, the 2009 has enough verve to develop nicely in bottle for many years to come. Overall, this is a relatively airy, understated Champagne for a year that generally produced more overt wines.
