Just Arrived, Up to 97 Pts: Bruno Clair Bonnes Mares & Corton-Charlemagne
Established in 1979 by Bruno Clair, the domaine has grown to encompass 27 hectares of prime vineyards, including revered sites such as Bonnes Mares, Clos de Bèze, and Clos St-Jacques.
Bruno Clair, often affectionately dubbed "the man who grew in the vineyard," has dedicated his life to the art of viticulture. His commitment to biodynamic farming and organic practices reflects a profound respect for the land and a relentless pursuit of excellence. The domaine's vineyards, many planted with ancient vines, yield wines that are both powerful and elegant, capturing the unique terroir of each plot.
In recent years, the next generation of the Clair family has taken on pivotal roles within the domaine, ensuring that the legacy of excellence continues. Edouard Clair, Bruno's eldest son, has particularly shone with his work on the Bonnes Mares vineyard, achieving remarkable acclaim and solidifying the family's reputation for producing world-class wines.
Arriving this week, we have capped a couple of well-drinking Grand Cru from Domaine Bruno Clair. The Corton Charlemagne is a hidden gem from 0.34Ha of vine with only six to eight barrels made in each year, the Bonnes Mares come from a 1.64 ha holding that is almost entirely from the Morey side which is a structured wine with excellent aging potential. These received fantastic scores from wine critics which are worth to take on when they're available.

Discreet wood frames the relatively high-toned aromas of various red berries along with a plentitude of floral and spice wisps along with a hint of fresh tobacco. There is outstanding power and mouth coating dry extract present on the broad-shouldered flavors that deliver superb depth and flat-out remarkable length. This beauty is however quite firmly structured so ample patience is strongly suggested.
Domaine Bruno Clair Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2017
HK$2,350 per bottle, 5 available
95pts Neal Martin
The 2017 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru seemed to be going back into its shell after bottling, but one can still see its gorgeous, undergrowth-infused red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. A structured Bonnes-Mares that has "serious" written across its forehead; it will need several years in bottle. One for the patient. The 2018 may even drink before it.
