Arrived! 2017 Joseph Drouhin Marquis de Laguiche and Meursault Charmes 1er Cru 2017

Founded in 1880, Joseph Drouhin was originally from the Chablis region and settled in Beaune to set up his wine company. But it was in 1957, when Robert Drouhin, Joseph Drouhin's grandson, took over that the domaine started to gain its present dimension with its acquisition of many vineyards, and that they began doing away with pesticides and other chemicals and built a laboratory of enology run by Laurence Jobard, the very first woman enologist in Burgundy. They then built a reputation for making wines that primarily reflect the individual terroir and vintage as they apply a balance of traditional and modern techniques and carefully monitor the whole winemaking process from vine to wine. They were awarded organic certification for all grapes grown within its vineyards beginning with the 2009 vintage. Their house style captures the purity of fruits with shorter aging period in oak and earlier bottling to preserve the charming fruitiness and completely reflect the terroirs in which the grapes were from; and specifically, their whites are pure, offering complete cleanliness in the palate.

2017 is set to be the best vintage for Burgundy whites, Jasper Morris said it is “a delicious vintage for white Burgundy” and Allen Meadows described that it is a vintage which “Wines of Freshness, Transparency and Refinement”. Consistently, Joseph Drouhin produced fresh and vibrant high-quality Chardonnay. We are delighted to be able to offer one of its flagship cuvee, Chassagne-Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche 1er Cru and Meursault Charmes 1er Cru, ready to drink now or reserve for further cellaring for the next 3-5 years -

94pts William Kelley
The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Marquis de Laguiche is showing brilliantly from bottle, wafting from the glass with a lovely bouquet of orange oil, nutmeg, Anjou pear, white peach, honeycomb and wheat toast. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and succulent, with an elegantly textural attack, fine concentration at the core and racy underpinning acids. Harmonious and complete, this is routinely one of Drouhin's finest white wines, and that is true in 2017 also.

Joseph Drouhin Meursault Charmes 1er Cru 2017
HK$920 per bottle, 18 bts available
91pts Allen Meadows
Relatively generous wood and vanilla influences can be found on the essence of pear liqueur aromas that are cut by hints of hazelnut and soft spice wisps. There is a lovely sense of tension as well as fine detail to the lightly stony flavors that culminate in a zest-inflected and very dry finish where the wood resurfaces. This is not especially concentrated but once the oak is better integrated, it should make for lovely drinking.
