Ghislaine Barthod has a long history dating back to the 1920s when Ghislaine's father, Gaston Barthod married Marcel Noellat's daughter. Gaston, whose family originated in the Jura, took over the domaine in the 1950s, and in the 1980s, his daughter, Ghislaine started to shadow his work. Since then, Ghislaine has constantly been bringing new vigor and her unique touch to the whole winemaking process but never forgets the importance of true terroir expression of the wines in Chambolle-Musigny. She has been producing brilliant work over the years, working with very low yields and rigorous pruning, making the domaine one of the most significant names for concentrated and well-defined wines from Chambolle-Musigny nowadays.
The age of vines remain between 50 to 90 years old and the grapes are usually destemmed, comparatively, Ghislaine Barthod applies less influence of oak into her wines with less than 30% new oak on Premier Cru and around 20% on village.
