One of the most epic champagne vintages in recent years, 2008 was dominated by grey, overcast skies and just when the harvest was getting underway, the weather cleared up, offering plentiful sunshine and prolonged north-northeasterly winds. The grapes were riper than anyone dared hope, and had a truly outstanding balance, and the vines were in perfect health. Dom Perignon, a widely known and loved champagne house that only produces vintage champagne, was awarded 96+pts by Wine Advocate for their vintage 2008 release and was complimented to be "the finest release of this iconic cuvée since the 1996 vintage".

The 2008 Dom Pérignon is a huge, powerful Champagne and also clearly one of the wines of the vintage. This is one of the most reticent bottles I have tasted. So much so that I am thinking about holding off opening any more bottles! The 2008 has always offered a striking interplay of fruit and structure. Today, the richness of the fruit is especially evident. Readers who own the 2008 should be thrilled, but patience is a must.
