Ready in Stock: WA 94-96pts Harmand-Geoffroy Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2018
With a history dating back to the 19th century, Domaine Harmand Geoffroy is a family-run estate that has a holding of 9 hectares of vineyards, all planted to Pinot Noir and situated exclusively in Gevrey-Chambertin. They have remarkable, old-vine holdings in Lavaux-St-Jacques, Champeaux, Perrière and La Bossiere (Monopole), as well as a Mazis Chambertin. With five generations tending the vines, the Domaine is now managed by Philippe Harmand, who joined from the mid-2000s, with parents Gérard and Martine in support. They continue to implement traditional viticulture with no chemicals or insecticides used and the grapes are harvested by hand.
Among their portfolio, the Mazis Chambertin Grand Cru is clearly their flagship wine. The domaine owns .73 ha in Mazis Chambertin and the grapes come from 6 different parcels in both Mazis Haut and Bas with vines averaging at 45+ years of age. We have the last 11 bottles in stock which is currently the lowest in the world^ with the next listing at HK$2,200 per bottle^. The 2018 was an atypical vintage, which created "fleshy and generous and easy to like" wines as Philippe described it, that earned a high score of 94-96pts from William Kelley and 95pts from Tim Atkin at Decanter. 94-96pts William Kelley, Wine Advocate
The 2018 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru soars from the glass with aromas of cassis, mulberries, grilled meat, rose petals, blood orange and a deft framing of toasty new oak. Muscular but harmonious, this full-bodied wine is rich, layered and textural, its ripe structuring tannins concealed by a lavish core of fruit. This fine cuvée, which somehow still flies largely under the radar, is well worth seeking out. (Feb 2020)
95pts Tim Atkin, <Decanter>
Equally divided between Mazis-Hauts and Mazis-Bas, with three parcels in each part of the Grand Cru, the Harmands' holdings add up to 0.76ha. Aged in 90% new wood, this is a bold, structured, richly textured Pinot Noir with lots of toast and coffee bean oak, layers of dark bramble and black cherry fruit, plenty of texture and the concentration to age. Drinking Window: 2023-2033. (Oct 2019)
