"La Combe d'Orveau" is one of the hidden gems in Chambolle-Musigny that is often overlooked because people misunderstand that it is a village but this terroir is actually split into two major parcels - one which is located at the lower slope and is classified as 1er Cru and Grand Cru; while the other on the west side is classified as "village". The plot which borders “Les Petits Musigny" (Musigny Grand Cru) has a lot of potential to reach Grand Cru status; and interestingly, some plots in La Combe d’Orveau had been promoted from 1er Cru to Grand Cru “Le Musigny” twice - once in in 1929 and another time in 1989. Due to the proximity to Le Musigny, there are plenty of stunning wines from La Combe d'Orveau which possess similar characteristics to that of their neighbour Le Musigny but are more approachable in price so it is a great starting point to explore the terroir of Musigny.
That being said, we are very pleased to offer the La Combe d'Orveau 1er Cru from Perrot-Minot and Taupenot-Merme today, both producers that are extremely respectful to the environment and produce classic Pinot Noirs; and notably the La Combe d'Orveau 'Cuvee Ultra Vieilles Vignes' 1er Cru 2014 from Perrot-Minot that comes from 70+ year old vines, so you can expect even more concentrated and intense flavors! Don't miss! -
