Miani is one of the very best white wine producers in Italy, and arguably produces wines with the quality equivalent to - or sometimes even better than - the Grand Crus in Burgundy. Owned by Enzo Pontoni who took over the family vineyards after his father passed away, Miani is located in the DOC of Colli Orientali del Fruili, near the village of Buttrio, and owns 4 hectares and rents 9 hectares of vineyards, all of which are run organically and spread across multiple varietals, including Tocai Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Refosco. 

The wines are barrel fermented, with about 40% consisting of new French oak. Processes in the cellar remain rustic, discarding malolactic fermentation, and unconcerned with temperature control. Wines are bottled per vineyard, to highlight the subtle changes from one to the next. Only less than 700 cases a year are produced from Miani as Enzo gives the attention and care needed to each and every vine, thus creating the decadent, full-bodied, and complex wines that they are well known for, most particular the Sauvignon Blanc which is perhaps Friuli's greatest example of the variety.

Today we are pleased to be offering a few selections of white wines from Miani from the 2020 vintage including the Colli Orientali del Friuli Bianco, Chardonnay Colli Orientali del Friuli and Zitelle Cava Sauvignon Blanc Colli Orientali del Friuli. Despite the low production levels and the high demand for his wines, the prices remain relatively reasonable but hard to secure, so be quick to make your decision on these as only a few bottles are available for each wine.
