This name is always likely to come up whenever there's a discussion around the best Chardonnay producers in the world – Domaine Leflaive from Burgundy has been an eminent winemaker in the world of wines which has been continuously producing astounding Chardonnay from Puligny-Montrachet for many decades. Madame Anne-Claude Leflaive built a strong reputation for the label under her careful and special attention in the vineyard, making some of the most fruit-forward and terroir-expressive wines that are worthy to be added to every wine collector's cellar since taking over from her father in 1994. Sadly Anne-Claude passed away in 2015 and Brice de La Morandiere's, Anne-Claude's nephew and great grandson of Joseph Leflaive the founder, has taken over carrying on with the same family philosophy of respect for the great ''terroirs'', humility towards the forces of nature and rigorous in it's relentless pursuit of excellence in wine making.
Today we are pleased to offer their Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles 1er Cru from the vintage 2006 from Anne-Claude's era. This has a "pure, elegant and refined nose" and offers a "long, sappy and utterly classy finish" according to Allen Meadows. Packed in an original wooden case, these were stored in a professional warehouse since its release from an agent in the United Kingdom. A pure, elegant and refined nose that is again, openly exotic with honeysuckle, mango, apricot and spiced pear plus subtle lemon peel notes that can also be found on the rich, full, ripe and generous flavors that possess a silky mouth feel due to the impressive amount of dry extract present, all wrapped in a long, sappy and utterly classy finish. This is really lovely and trades less minerality and overall precision for more refinement.
