🔥STOCK SALE: Adrien Renoir Champagne

Champagne Adrien Renoir is a small, family run domaine in Verzy, all of the vineyards are in Grand Cru classification located in a village on the northern side of the Montagne de Reims, where the Renoir family has been growing vines for four generations. After working alongside his father Vincent, Adrien officially took over in 2014 and began bottling under his own name in 2019.

Today the estate works exclusively with its own Grand Cru fruit and focuses on a concise range of cuvées that highlight old vines, single parcels and the tension filled profile that defines great Pinot Noir from this sector of Champagne.

From the outset Adrien stopped using herbicides, earned organic certification in 2020 and has been steadily incorporating elements of biodynamics and agroforestry to push vineyard health and depth of expression even further. In the cellar he has moved completely away from stainless steel, fermenting every wine in neutral oak barrels, aging reserve wines in large foudres and favouring ambient yeasts, bâtonnage and long lees aging to build texture without sacrificing energy. The result is a set of Grand Cru Champagnes that combine generosity and salinity, purity of fruit and chalky backbone, offering a remarkably articulate voice for Verzy that feels both contemporary and firmly rooted in the region’s finest traditions.

Adrien Renoir Les Vignes Goisses' Verzy Grand Cru Pinot Meunier (Disgorged Jun 2023) 2020
HK$900 per bottle, 10 bottles in stock

94+pts Wine Advocate
Produced from old-vine Pinot Meunier as an experiment to assess the variety’s potential in Verzy, Renoir now crafts it almost annually, weather permitting. He explains that in Verzy, the chalkiest sites, which tend to yield the most racy wines, are found at lower altitudes where the clay topsoil is just 40 to 50 centimeters deep, while higher slopes contain up to two meters of clay. Disgorged in June 2024 with a dosage of 1.6 grams per liter, it wafts from the glass with a deep bouquet of peach, red berries, pear and spice. On the palate, the wine is bright and seamless, with chalky structure and mouthwatering acidity, marked by a distinct tension and saline finish.

Adrien Renoir Les Epinettes' Verzy Grand Cru Pinot Noir (Disgorged Jun 2024) 2020
HK$900 per bottle, 18 bts in stock

94pts Wine Advocate
Flamboyant and somewhat more powerful than the 2019 rendition, Adrien Renoir's 2020 Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru Les Epinettes reveals an expressive bouquet of pear, honeysuckle, raspberries and orange zest. On the palate, it is full-bodied, textural and concentrated, shaped by the warm growing season and supported by ripe yet racy acidity, with Pinot Noir phenolics discernible on the long, aromatic finish. This cuvée, readers will recall, is sourced from old massal selection Pinot Noir planted in clay-rich soils.

Adrien Renoir Les Montants' Verzy Grand Cru Chardonnay (Disgorged Jun 2024) 2019
HK$900 per bottle, 36bts in stock

94pts Wine Advocate
Renoir's 2019 Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Les Montants is the only cuvée in the lineup crafted entirely from Chardonnay. The fruit for this wine comes from one of the family’s oldest parcels, part of which was planted in 1961 with massal selection. After just 40 centimeters of topsoil, the roots reach into the chalk. Disgorged in July 2023 with a dosage of one gram per liter, it reveals aromas of white flowers, green apple, fresh hazelnut and lemon zest. Full-bodied, generously structured and concentrated, it is underpinned by racy acidity and a chalky, tensile mid-palate, finishing with a long, citrus-inflected finale. The vineyard’s northwest exposure helps strike a delicate balance between generosity and freshness, especially in warm years like this.

Adrien Renoir Les Annees' Solera Grand Cru Pinot Noir (Disgorged Dec 2023) NV
HK$1,250 per bottle, 9 in stock

94pts Wine Advocate
As anticipated, Adrien Renoir's 2021-based NV Solera Les Années (2021 base) is more incisive and tensile than the 2022-base, exhibiting impressive clarity. Incorporating 50% perpetual reserve wine dating back to 2013, this cuvée, crafted exclusively from Pinot Noir, was disgorged in December 2023 with a dosage of 1.6 grams per liter. It reveals a deep bouquet of pear, honeysuckle, toasted nuts and mandarin oil. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, racy and saline, with bright acidity and a mineral finish. Renoir selects barrels for this cuvée based on their evolution, typically choosing the freshest with the most tension.
