Domaine Jean Grivot is among the greatest names in the world of Burgundy. Located in Vosne-Romanee, they have an ownership of 155.5 hectares spread across 22 appellations, including 3 Grand Crus: Clos de Vougeot, Echezeaux and Richebourg, 8 Premier Crus including the much lauded Beaumonts and Suchots and also some village and bourgogne.
 
The Domaine was passed down from Jean Grivot to his son Etienne in 1987, and in 2017, Etienne passed the torch to his talented, educated and passionate daughter, Mathilde, who has brought a fresh approach to this fine domaine while keeping the long time tradition of the Grivot family in which the quality of wine stems from meticulous vineyard work throughout the year to grow healthy, ripe fruits with good depth and flavour. Their holdings in Richebourg, Echézeaux, Beaumonts, and Suchots are all ploughed using a horse as opposed to using machines to minimize the impact on the soil. The grapes are entirely destemmed and after fermentation, the wines are pumped over once a day before aging in barrel for 15 months; then depending on the vintage, the proportion of new oak is around 25% for the villages appellations, 30-40% for Premier crus and 40-45% percent for Grands Crus.

 In contrast to the prior Vosne 1ers, this is much more aromatically opulent and expressive with intense, pure, unadulterated black fruits and sappy, large-scaled, wonderfully detailed, seductively complex flavors and striking length. This is more forward and less structured but the sheer class and harmony of this make for a complete wine.
