After seven years of searching, Rémi and Henri Krug discovered the Clos d’Ambonnay in 1991—a tiny, secret walled plot in Ambonnay, one of Champagne’s most revered Grand Cru villages, its protective walls dating back to 1766. Purchased in 1994 and just 0.68 hectares in size, the vineyard lies on the south-eastern slope of the Montagne de Reims, where rich chalk soils nourish the Pinot Noir vines, imbuing each grape with unmatched character and depth.. Today, every bottle of Krug Clos d’Ambonnay is not only a tribute to Joseph Krug’s plot-by-plot winemaking philosophy but also a celebration of the nearly two-century-old walls that embrace this extraordinary vineyard, safeguarding its unique terroir and history.
