Domaine des Comtes Lafon has long been one of our favourite white wine producers as they offer beautiful Chardonnay that are of very high quality yet still with approachable price tags compared to the other top white producers like Coche Dury, Arnaud Ente and Roulot. Comtes Lafon owns some decent terroirs in Meursault and produce Meursaults of astonishing depth and complexity. The current owner Dominique Lafon started managing the Domaine in 1985 and has maintained the glorious reputation of the Domaine for over 35 years, making outstanding Meursaults from different sites from Grand Cru down to Village.
 
2020 is a successful vintage for Domaine des Comtes Lafon, with Dominique Lafon summarized “I think the 2020s are fresher than the 2018s. You feel more heat on the 2018s”. The 2020 Meursault Village reveals aromas of pear, citrus zest, toasted hazelnuts and fresh pastry, followed by a medium to full-bodied, taut and chiseled palate that I suspect will take on more flesh and texture as it concludes its élevage. As usual, this derives from the stony soils of Chaumes de Narvaux.
