Founded in 1818, Billecart-Salmon is a medium-size Champagne House in Mareuil-sur-AĂż. The old family-run champagne house was founded by Nicolas-François Billecart and Elisabeth Salmon and remains family-owned to this day. The house owns 30 hectares of vineyards, including the amazing Le Clos Saint Hilaire, and it also sources a further 140 hectares of grapes from 35 different sites in which they are all either Grand Cru or Premier Cru quality grapes. Pinot Noir comes from the Montagne de Reims, Chardonnay from the CĂŽtes de Blancs, and the Pinot Meunier from the Marne Valley. One of its top cuvees is CuvĂ©e Nicolas-François Billecart which was created in 1964 as a tribute to the houseâs founder. Only the best Grand Cru grapes are used in this prestige cuvee which presents exceptional finesse and harmonious quality which also comes with long cellaring potential.Â

We have sampled a standard bottle of 2002 Nicolas-François Billecart earlier and are amazed with the complexity of the wine. It encourages us to look for larger format that might even taste better. Putting it side by side with other Grand Marques, 2002 Nicolas-François Billecart was awarded 97pts from Antonio Galloni which was the same with 2002 Salon and also ahead 2002 Krug. A fantastic opportunity and once they're gone, it will be very difficult to find -Â

A mesmerizing, thrilling Champagne, the 2002 Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart is a great example of the vintage at its best. Silky and racy on the palate, yet a bit more restrained than many wines of the year, the Nicolas François Billecart remains vivid and remarkably nuanced. Brioche. apricot jam, wild flowers and honey are some of the many notes that blossom as the Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart shows off its voluptuous personality. The 2002 is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay.
