Robert Sirugue Grands Echezeaux, 《神の雫 Drops of God》第十使徒：希望

A beautiful estate in Vosne-Romanée known to produce high-quality wine, Domaine Robert Sirugue is attracting more and more attention in recent years especially since being featured in the popular Japanese wine-themed comic, Drops of God. Their wines were given high praise in the comic as well as from Winehog's Steen Öhman who commented on the domaine saying, “the quality is surprisingly high and the wines are both delicious and lovely – not always to be expected in Vosne-Romanée.” Their style is solid and complex with a compact structure.
 
Domaine Robert Sirugue holds 0.1205ha of vineyard in Grands Echezeaux which is the smallest holding out of the fourteen owners in the appellation. After Arnaud Sirugue took over the estate, the qualities have been massively improved from further intensity and fruit definition of the wines. The Grands Echezeaux is made with 100% new oak and 100% whole-cluster fermentation.

1.5 barrels, all new wood, all whole bunch, but with the main stems removed, which they have done since 2016. Clear mid purple. A stunning nose with that little briary touch. Perhaps a light greenness but of the sort which will become fine and leafy later on. Darker fruit at the back, a little sensuality, really a fascinating and complex wine. The fruit has eaten the wood easily. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Dec 2022.

I tasted the three sectors which will make up the blend: Réas is light, pretty and stylish. Chalandins has more vigour, density and depth and a more tannic structure. Barreaux has the best intensity here, and a stricter feel with a tingling finish. The blend represents equal parts from the three cuvees. A pretty fresh purple. The fruit and the flowers are playing well together, definitely a more complete wine than any of its parts, with a much longer finish, including some alpine strawberry. Definitely a fine and complete Vosne-Romanée. Drink from 2026-2030. Tasted Dec 2022.

A pretty pink to ruby colour, a light sandy soil with stones close to the mother rock. The fruit has been enlivened by retaining a third of whole bunches. Thee is relatively firm acidity behind and a slightly mentholated note. Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted Dec 2022.
