🇳🇿Rare: Bell Hill 2020 including Single Vineyards Shelf & Limeworks
Apr 01, 2026
Marcel Giesen and Sherwyn Veldhuizen began Bill Hill Vineyard in 1997. They started to plant the vines in a very dense pattern at up to 11,363 vines per hectare on the very steep slopes in the unique vineyard. The quality is unarguably outstanding and Joe Czerwinski from Wine Advocate commented on these beautiful wines after his visit in 2019 and tasted Vintage 2015, saying that “Is there any doubt that Bell Hill has emerged as one of New Zealand's top Pinot Noir producers?”. It emerged to be one of the most sought after wines nowadays as the production is minuscule and are sold by mailing list or restaurants, undoubtedly it is also one of the best examples of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the southern hemisphere.
The 2020 vintage experienced stable weather conditions, with a warm start to the growing season followed by a very short harvesting window in April due to very low yields given in the vintage. We are delighted to offer a full line-up of the vintages including recently released two single vineyards - "Shelf" and "Limeworks" which are extremely difficult to source.

So much spice, flint and chalk with blood-orange aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, it has fine, velvety tannins that run the length of the wine, layered and superb in every sense of the word. Such depth and complexity without power—it’s about intensity and character. Drinkable but will age beautifully.
Bell HIll Chardonnay ‘Limeworks’ Single Parcel 2020 (654 bottles produced)
^Only 1 listing of Vintage 2016 at HK$4,250
HK$3,380 per bottle, ETA Late 2026, 6 bottles available
100 points James Suckling (#1 Wine of the Year in 2024)
Wow. This 100-point white tastes like it could come straight out of the Burgundy region of Puligny-Montrachet – something akin to the premier cru of Les Pucelles – but it has a distinctive energy from the intense acidity (low pH), perhaps from its calcareous soils. Its few thousand vines are literally planted in a former lime quarry, producing wines of remarkable energy and distinction. So tight and dense, showing incredible depth and power with phenolics that integrate beautifully into the wine. Medium-bodied, it has great length, going on and on. Let this age if you can. Only couple of barrels made. Special selection.
