Château de la Maltroye is an iconic estate in Chassagne-Montrachet, with an 18th-century mansion and cellars dating back to the 15th century. Owned by the Cornut family since 1939, it spans 13 hectares in Chassagne-Montrachet and 2 in Santenay, with 70% of its vineyards classified as Premier Cru. The estate’s old-vine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grow across notable climats, including the prized Clos de la Maltroye monopole, cultivated using sustainable, lutte raisonnée methods that emphasize tradition and terroir.
 
A major winemaking transition began with Jean-Pierre Cornut in 1993. He modernized the cellar with pneumatic presses, temperature control, and separate processes for reds and whites. Whites are gently pressed and fermented at low temperatures, then matured in a careful mix of barrels. With low yields, manual harvesting, and meticulous fermentation, Cornut’s approach blends heritage and innovation, consistently producing expressive, ageworthy wines marked by purity and complexity.
