"Montrachet of Champagne" - JR, Excellent Price! Henri Giraud Argonne 2012 & 2017
Oct 05, 2026
“A sort of Montrachet of Champagne!” - Jancis Robinson MW
Henri Giraud is a prestigious name known for producing rich, extensive and powerful wine. Founded way back in 1625, Henri Giraud is one of the oldest Champagne houses in the region and is still a family-run business which is currently owned by twelfth generation Claude Giraud, with his son managing the company while son-in-law being the head winemaker.
Their wines are 100% oak-fermented and the house insists on producing with oak casks from the forest in Aÿ to impose the forest terroir into the wine, giving it one of the most unique flavors among Champagnes in the world. Their star production is "Argonne" which was first released in 2002 after years of research. The 2017 Argonne cuvée is produced with 80% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay. All from the best vineyards in Aÿ (100% Grand Crus), and then exclusively vinified in new casks made from Argonne wood then age 7 more years in the bottle on its yeasts. There are only about 5,000 bottles produced each year which it comes to very limited in the market. We are delighted to offer some Vintage 2012 and 2017 at competitive prices -

2017 Henri Giraud 'Argonne' Ay Grand Cru Brut (OWC1)
HK$3,280 per bottle, 6 bottles available (ETA 6-8 weeks)
95pts Antonio Galloni
The 2017 Argonne is rich, ample and viscous, as is typical of this wine, but done on the lighter style that is the norm here these days. Apricot, tangerine oil, mint and a hint of spice are all seamless in the glass. This has really started to come together since I first tasted it a few months ago. Disgorged: March 2025 .
We can also offer the Vintage 2012 from stock, which are available for delivery:
2012 Henri Giraud 'Argonne' Ay Grand Cru Brut (OWC1)
HK$4,450 per bottle, 6 bottles available (Immediately available)
97pts Antonio Galloni
The 2012 Argonne is superb. It is a blend of 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay vinified in 100% new oak, which is barely perceptible. Silky, nuanced and incredibly refined, the 2012 opens to reveal layers of Mirabelle, dried flowers, orange zest and apricot. The interplay of Aÿ richness and more mineral inflections makes for an absolutely compelling Champagne. Unlike most releases of Argonne, the 2012 needs a few years in bottle to be at its best. Today, it is decidedly taut, but impressive just the same. (Originally published in August 2020)
