The eldest son of the honored white winemaker in Saint-Aubin, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey set up his own winery under his own name after working in his father's domaine for over 10 years. Given his talent and influence from his father, he quickly made a name for himself and became one of the most highly sought-after labels in the world of Chardonnay. He applied new methods in his own domaine - using larger barrels (350-litre), no battonage (lees stirring) in the winemaking process and top his wines with wax - all of which aim to avoid premature oxidation as well as making pure, elegant and precise wines which genuinely express the characteristics of the terroirs. Due to the popularity of his wines, it is not easy to source his bottles, especially back vintages so it is always a good idea to pick up a few bottles whenever they are available.
Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Bourgogne Blanc is one of the best value wines among the line-up as it is a blend of village claissification grapes from St-Aubin, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. Credited as an "outstanding top value" wine from Allen Meadows, this is a clever option for those who are looking at an impressive daily Chardonnay without breaking the bank -

87pts Allen Meadows "Outstanding Top Value"
A fresh and ripe nose combines notes of apple, pear and a pretty floral whiff. There is good vibrancy and very good density as well to the delicious flavors that conclude in a citrus-tinged finish that is refreshing and sneaky long. This is quite good for what it is and worth checking out, especially as an all-around house white.
