Laurent-Perrier Champagne was founded in 1812 by Andre Michel Pierlot, then passed to the Eugene Laurent and Mathilde Perrier couples. Therefore, started the Laurent-Perrier house of champagne. The de Nonancourt family now retains majority ownership of the company up to date. The family produces a comparatively small amount of vintage Champagne, only in the very best years.
 
It comes to even smaller quantities, Laurent-Perrier recently released their Brut Millésimé Vintage 2000 which has already been cellared in the cellar for more than 20 years with lees, and it is the first time vintage magnums have been released as “recent disgorgements”. With an extended lees aging period, these magnums have magnificent texture and complexity while still being fresh and full of energy. Scored 18pts by Jancis Robinson which outscores her recent rating for Dom Perignon 2000, it comes highly recommended:

Magnums only. 50% Chardonnay from Avize, Cramant, Oger, Chouilly and 50% Pinot Noir from Verzy, Mailly, Ambonnay and Bouzy. Disgorged on 22 April 2021. 7 g/l dosage. Fairly wet summer but saved by a fine September. Deep honeyed gold. Clearly fully mature with a deep, resonant, somehow mineral/burnished metal nose. Very serious. A rich start but a super-appetising dry finish. Complex with a note of lime and yet richness too. Utterly beguiling. Long. Just the right amount of appetising mousse.
