The Gros family has been making excellent wine in Burgundy since the early 1800s when Alphonse Gros married Madame Latour and acquired their first parcels of vines in Vosne-Romanee. The Domaine was divided as it was passed down from generation to generation thus making the Domaine names as complicated as it gets for a family with such a long history in the region. To make it simple, there are essentially four separate Gros Domaines, all related to each other: Gros Frère et Sœur, Anne Gros, Anne-Francoise Gros (aka A.F. Gros) and Michel Gros. While they come from the same family, they are all industrious viticulturalists who adhere to their own philosophies in wine-making.

 

Unlike the other 3 separated members from the large Gros family, A.F. (Anne-Françoise) Gros is located in Pommard and Beaune but with several important vineyards in Vosne-Romanée. Most of the holdings are inherited from Jean Gros and the domaine also purchased a few holdings themselves. The Domaine is currently managed by Caroline and Mathias Parent, daughter and son of Anne-Francoise Gros. A.F. Gros ages their wines separately with around 40% of wines aged in new barrels and the rest aged in used large barrels in order to concentrate the flavour of fruits in the wines. Most of the wines are unfiltered unless necessary.
