Don't Miss! 95pts Follin-Arbelet Romanee Saint Vivant Grand Cru 2012

Located on the southern side of Romanee-Conti and situated on lower slopes, Romanée-St-Vivant had not been as famous as its neighbors Romanée-Conti, La Romanée, La Tache and Richebourg, but the owners have been carefully cultivating the land and hence qualities have shown vast improvements over the years and is now producing some of the lightest, most delicate and aromatic Grand Cru from Vosne-Romanée, and is considered a serious rival of Richebourg and sometimes even outperforms its masculine neighbor!

Domaine Follin-Arbelet gained greater popularity after being featured in the Japanese wine-themed comic "Drops of God" for their Romanée-St-Vivant 1999, with very good reason. The owner, Franck Follin-Arbelet, grew up in Burgundy's Côte d’Or and while he was always attracted to viticulture, his family’s vines were all rented out and they did not make their own wine. In 1993, due to his interest and expertise in soil, he decided to set up his own estate and together with his wife, Christine, who comes from the Latour family, produces one village wine, four premier crus, and four grand crus including Romanée-St-Vivant in which their plot is situated nearby Domaine de la Romanee Conti's. They take on a traditional winemaking approach - fermenting in open-top wooden vats, using only indigenous yeasts, and the wines are bottled in unfined and unfiltered to create pure and intense wines. And, despite the great quality that they offer, Follin-Arbelet's Romanee-St-Vivant is relatively more accessible price-wise than their counterparts such as Romanée-Conti, Leroy and Sylvain Cathiard and thus is worthy of any Burgundy lover's consideration.

Follin-Arbelet Romanee Saint Vivant Grand Cru 2012
HK$3,200 per bottle, only 6 bottles are available!

95pts Neal Martin
Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Romanée Saint Vivant Grand Cru from Domaine Follin-Arbelet has an intense, dark cherry, blackcurrant and liquorice-tinged bouquet that perhaps lacks the nuance and complexity you see from such a grand cru. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin, supple and velvety in the mouth with a juicy ripe core, rippling nicely towards the finish marked by well judged acidity and a sustained plush aftertaste.

Subject to final confirmation. ETA 3 weeks.
