With a history dating as far back as 1731, Bouchard Père et Fils is one of most famous winegrowers, négociants, and producers based in Beaune. They hold the finest plots in Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, in which more than two-thirds hold Grand Cru and Premier Cru statuses. They have a fantastic line-up of both reds and whites produced from its 130 hectares of vineyard in Bourgogne. With both financial and winemaking arms, they produce wines that effectively express different climats with quality being consistently excellent year after year, attributed to the intensive work carried out from vineyard to bottle. A more elegant, less reserved and spicier nose of cool red berry fruit that has background nuances of Gevrey earth and underbrush notes that merge into rich, full and serious full-bodied flavors that are marvelously complex and brimming with dry extract that gives the finish a textured quality on the massively long finish. This is a 'wow' wine that is also old school in style.

A wonderfully, even exuberantly spicy and layered nose speaks of earth, underbrush and a certain animale character on the primarily red berry fruit that moves seamlessly into cool and intensely mineral broad-scaled flavors that are powerful, vibrant and display a saline element on the stylish and classy finish that is presently quite linear and will require plenty of time to flesh out because the suggested initial drinking window is not a typo.

As it usually does, this offers another level of aromatic complexity with a highly spiced nose trimmed in a subtle touch of wood that does not interfere with the overall transparency of either the nose or the palate as this is pure, classy and refined. Moreover, the tannins are also more refined, which is unusual, and this completely stains the palate on the hugely long finish. A balanced, stylish and beguiling Bèze that is built to age, and improve, for up to two decades.

This is also moderately toasty though it's not enough to hide the hallmark spiciness of a classic Clos de Bèze along with ripe black pinot fruit, stone and game nuances. There is excellent richness and impressive volume to the extract-rich mid-palate that imparts a seductive mouth feel to the medium-weight flavors. The aspect that is really remarkable here though is just the sheer depth, which when coupled with the superb length make for one exciting wine. Note carefully though that this will also need extended cellaring.
