Located in the southern part of Côte de Nuits in the village of Comblanchien, Domaine Gerard Julien & Fils has a long and solid history in Bourgogne when François-Xavier Julien purchased some vineyards in Comblanchien. The domaine started to produce fantastic quality wines in 1930s, and now expanded to 10.54 hectares of vines in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Aloxe-Corton and Vosne-Romanee.
 
In 2012, Gérard’s son Étienne Julien took over the ruin and demand of his wines has been massively increased. With organic farming applied from 2012 and increased proportion of new oak barrels, this results more vibrant and complex wines which also enjoyable when young. Winehog’s Steen Öhman is unarguably a fan of Étienne Julien and he says:
“As I taste these wines … from the 2013 vintage and onwards, I have started to appreciate or should I say enjoy the inner quality of these wines more and more”

The style is fruity and energetic – the oak is well integrated in this NSG Les Bousselots 2013. This is one of my favorite wines made by Étienne from a somewhat overlooked 1er cru terroir beneath Aux Thorey just north of the Nuits-Saint-Georges town. The bouquet offer red and dark berry fruit – energetic, juicy and detailed. On the palate vibrant fruit – lovely tension and energy supported by a lovely playful minerality for a Nuits-Saint-Georges. A hedonistic treat … drinking very well indeed.
