Being one of the very top Champagne houses, Louis Roederer's Cristal is highly demanded around the world. The Cuvee and its distinctive flat, clear lead crystal glass bottle design were first made in 1876 to satisfy the demanding tastes and safety needs of Tsar Alexander II. Produced only during the best years, when the Chardonnay (around 40%) and Pinot noir (around 60%) grapes have attained perfect maturity, in usual cases, they are aged for 6 years in Louis Roederer’s cellars and left for a further 8 months after dégorgement. Depending on the growing conditions in each year, the cellar master will slightly change his secret recipe as a cooler year may favor Pinot Noir while a warmer year will favor Chardonnay. Every release offers a powerful and multi-dimensional Champagne that amazes every drinker's senses; therefore, we are always keen to stock up on Cristals whenever the price is right.
This year, Louis Roederer has released limited quantities of Cristal 2005 which are in 1.5L Magnums and undergone much longer second fermentation in bottles. Late disgorgement brings further flavour and textural complexity to the palate, as well as focused energy.
