Our Egly-Ouriet List including Old Disgorged Blanc de Noirs Vieilles Vignes!
Back in the olden days, the Champagne market was dominated by the Grande Marques and no one hardly cared for those so-called "grower champagnes"; but as the drinkers grew more sophisticated and demanded for more, they started to look beyond the commercial bottles that we are all so well acquainted with, and that's when the grower champagnes started to come into the spotlight. Despite not being Grand Marques, many of these grower champagnes has been creating world-class wines for many years, and one of the most iconic Grower Champagnes is none other than Egly-Ouriet which was praised by wine critic Antonio Galloni to be "at the very top of the pecking order in Champagne today".
Located in the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay which is home to some of the greatest Pinot Noir in all of France, Francis Egly was determined to take their Pinot Noir-dominant Champagnes up another few notches from where it already was when he took over from his father in 1980, and proceeded to switch to organic practices and reduced yields. In addition to the meticulous work done in the vineyards, Francis was equally attentive throughout the winemaking process. He harvests very ripe grapes, keeps only the first pressing using very gentle extraction and ages in barrel for years longer than most other counterparts, he creates absolutely beautiful Champagnes that truly expresses the terroir which the wines came from.
Egly-Ouriet remains one of the best grower Champagne nowadays and received excellent appreciations from wine critics. With availability of these already becoming shallow, we are pleased to offer a selection of Egly-Ouriet in stock -
