2023 Domaine Muxin: Yunnan's Cult Micro-Estate

If you're looking for the most talked-about wine coming out of China right now, we've just secured a small allocation of the 2023s Domaine Muxin (木杺), the micro-estate in Shangri-La.

Founded in 2020 by Mou Chao (牟超), trained at Clos de Tart in Burgundy and Jean-Louis Chave in the Rhône, the estate farms around 4 hectares split across 20-odd tiny plots strung along a 50km stretch of the Lancang (Mekong) river valley, inside the Three Parallel Rivers UNESCO site. Mou Chao sums up the house philosophy simply: "80% terroir, 20% winemaking", meaning native yeast, hand-sorted berries, no fining, no filtration.

The Chardonnay is the wine everyone's chasing: mineral-driven, taut, built on real acidity. The red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blend with refined tannins and shapes its elegance even when they’re young.

And then there's the Cuvée Spéciale, only a few hundred bottles a year, 100% destemmed and micro-sorted berry by berry, blending only the parcels that reach full phenolic maturity, using techniques Mou Chao brought back from Clos de Tart and Jean-Louis Chave. Limited quantities available in stock, we are delighted to offer:
