Considered a more masculine wine among the appellations in Burgundy, Gevrey-Chambertin is situated in the Côte de Nuits region of Côte d'Or and is the largest wine-producing village in Côte d'Or with over 400ha of wine producing area. There are a total of 9 Grand Crus - Chambertin, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, Charmes-Chambertin, Mazoyères-Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin, Griotte-Chambertin, Latricières-Chambertin, Mazis-Chambertin and Ruchottes-Chambertin - and 26 Premier Crus. Only red wines are produced and they usually present high tannins, full-bodied, powerful, rich and meaty, and age excellently. t possesses strong aromas of strawberry, mulberry, violet, mignonette and rose; and as it ages, flavors like liquorice, leather and gamey notes become more apparent - all which make it a great accompaniment to stews and strong-flavoured dishes such as grilled red meat, leg of mutton, beef Bourguignon, coq au vin, and strong cheeses.
