Located at Chassagne Montrachet, Domaine Bernard Moreau is a historical estate that can date as far back as 1809, when the founder Auguste Moreau built a cellar near the Champs Gain vineyards with a few hectares farmed on the hillside. The current vineyards holdings were mostly added in the 1930s under the management of Marcel Moreau. Bernard Moreau took over the vineyards in the early 1960s at the age of 14. In 1977, the Domaine officially changed to his own name. Bernard’s son Alex and Bonoit as the new generations of winemakers, now managing the domaine.

Moreau owns around 9 hectares of vineyards, with another 5 hectares farmed under contract. Most are Chassagne-Montrachet, with some plots in Saint-Aubin and Volnay, mainly focusing on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.  The vineyards are managed with a natural approach, with no use of herbicides or pesticides, which only organic fertilizers are permitted to use. Most of the vines are old and therefore remain at low yields, with around 8000 cases per year. Their winemaking techniques are quite flexible, which vary due to the fruit characteristics and how the wines are matured. Their wines are fermented in French Oak barrels for 12 to 20 months, containing around 10-50 per cent of new oak. In the meantime, in order to retain the natural carbon dioxide for as long as possible, the lees are not racked or stirred, without fining of filtration when bottled.  

2019 of Burgundy White has been described to be a fantastic vintage, which shows a vivid and concentrated expression, centred around citrus and white fruits. Most white grapes were harvested in early September when it was getting cold in Burgundy, thus the wines created are deeply aromatic and elegant, showing excellent balance and freshness.
