Domaine Hubert Lignier has a history dating back to the 1880s when it was set up, but its wine journey all truly began when Henri Lignier started to plant the parcels in 1955 that remain their core holdings till this day. The Domaine is located in Morey St Denis and is a traditional family estate which is passed from one generation to another. Hubert Lignier himself managed the domaine for several decades and drove the domaine to its success. His son, Romain, took over the management in 1992 but sadly passed away suddenly in 2004 at just 36 years old, so Hubert resumed his work at the Domaine for 2004 and 2005 until his other son, Laurent, came back to work with him, leaving his careers at Albert Bichot and Pernod Ricard, and took complete control of the domaine from 2006 onwards.
Winemaking remains traditional from generation to generation, but there are modifications in each era. Hubert Lignier’s tools were rustic, temperature control was done by natural means rather than in a more controlled environment. Romain introduced a pre-alcoholic fermentation of 4-6 days with gentler extractions with decreased use of new oak, and brought in more modern tools. And a few years after the domaine was passed to Laurent, the domaine moved towards organic farming and went on the formal process for biodynamic certification in 2015, and he destalks the grapes and ages the wines in lightly toasted oak barrels which are only at most 20% new, offering wines that are extremely pure and elegant. Laurent aims to produce "authentic and sensual wines that express their own terroir”.

Concentrated, round, ripe and mouthfilling, combining sweet red berry and spice flavors with a savory element. The supple tannins are buried in fruit on the long back end. La Riotte is always an open style, notes Laurent Lignier, adding that its pH in 2015 is between 3.6 and 3.7. This fruit was harvested on September 11 at 14.2% potential alcohol, with the rocky but deep soil producing 40 hectoliters per hectare

A fruit bomb with terrific early sweetness, a touch of saline minerality and a long, firmly tannic yet refined finish.
