New Release: Extensively Aged Pommery Cuvée Louise 2005 Special Edition
Established in 1857 by Alexandre-Louis Pommery who unfortunately passed away just a year after establishment, the Champagne house was left to his widow, Louise, and which she managed to lead it to the success and glory we know of nowadays. Louise eventually remarried, but the Champagne house remained in the family until the late 1980s which was then sold to various groups, and finally to the Vranken Group in 2002.
The Pommery estate has an underground cathedral 30 meters underground and phenomenal cellars which were built on ancient crayères dug by the Romans 2000 years ago, and each cellar was named by Madame Pommery to pay tribute to her customers around the world. Pommery pride themselves on particularly cold cellars - 10°C/50°F all year round – which aids the slow evolution of the wines as they age. One of the house's iconic productions is Pommery Cuvée Louise. It was created as a tribute to Louise Pommery, and is made with 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir grapes from three most beautiful Grand Cru plots in Avize, Cramant and Ay. The Cuvée is a pure wine that shows great craftsmanship and is the perfect example of the amazing quality that one would expect from Pommery.
Today we are pleased to be offering their Cuvee Louise from vintage 2005. While the cuvée usually spends at least eight years on lees, the 2005 was aged for 12 years, showing a distinctly evolved style with fine tertiary development; and the packaging has received a more modern touch. The house says the new colors "symbolize the history and the values of Maison Pommery: the pink of Madame Pommery and her visionary genius, the gold as a reminder of the beauty and richness of its heritage, and finally the blue of water and Pommery’s commitment to the preservation of the environment.”

Hints of earth and a touch of dark fir honey immediately suggest maturity on the nose. Some Red Delicious ripeness also comes into play. There is subtle freshness and lovely depth.
