Domaine du Clos des Fées (fée meaning fairy in French) was established in Roussillon of Southern France in 1998 by a successful former sommelier, restaurateur from Paris who is also a food and wine pundit - Hervé Bizeul was tired of the Paris scene and fell in love with the terroir at Vingrau after a visit in 1997 with its landscape of steep-sided hills, stony garrigue and bush-trained vines offset by the high Corbières and almost permanently sunny skies. He decided to buy a parcel of vines to cultivate as a hobby, and just made wines in an old garage, using barrels he purchased from DRC and Château l'Angelus when he first started but even with his first vintage, his wines were already a huge success. He subsequently upgraded his facilities but still strongly believes that, "Technology is like money at the poker table, you need to have it to play, but it doesn't mean you win." and that "If you want to make great red wines, you don't need technology."

With his passion, taste and dedication, he quickly made a name for himself in the region after just six years of becoming a verignon. He set out to show that Roussillon can make wines that can rival the best of the world, and he has done just that - Domaine du Clos des Fées is now one of the most exciting domaines to keep on your radar!

Over the years Le Clos des Fées has evolved to comprise seven vineyard sites in Vingrau, Tautavel, Maury, Calce, Lesquerde, Opoul and Espira de l'Agly. Apart from the Roussillon region's traditional varieties, Bizeul planted Cabernet Franc and Tempranillo, and his latest project involves Pinot Noir and has proven to be highly successful, which we are pleased to offer the Pinot Noir Jeunes Vignes 2017 to you today! This Pinot Noir Jeunes Vignes 2017 was scored 94 points by Wine Advocate and was commented to be "a terrific, floral example of the variety" with a finishing that is "long and silky".

Bizeul ages his Pinot Noir in one-year-old Burgundy barrels from a friend's estate. The 2017 IGP Cotes Catalanes Pinot Noir Jeunes Vignes Aimer, Rever, Prier, Se Taire is a terrific, floral example of the variety, kicking off with scents of roses, raspberries and cherries. It's medium to full-bodied, with enough tannins to warrant cellaring for another year or two, finishing long and silky.
