The eldest son of the honored white winemaker in Saint-Aubin, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey set up his own winery under his own name after working in his father's domaine for over 10 years. Given his talent and influence from his father, he quickly made a name for himself and became one of the most highly sought-after labels in the world of Chardonnay. He applied new methods in his own domaine - using larger barrels (350-litre), no battonage (lees stirring) in the winemaking process and top his wines with wax - all of which aim to avoid premature oxidation as well as making pure, elegant and precise wines which genuinely express the characteristics of the terroirs. Due to the popularity of his wines, it is not easy to source his bottles, especially back vintages so it is always a good idea to pick up a few bottles whenever they are available.

There is just enough reduction to shave the high notes from the nose of pear, citrus and lilac aromas. There is good mid-palate fat to the round, delicious and appealingly vibrant flavors that deliver good persistence on the clean and focused finish.

Reduction presently dominates the nose so I would strongly suggest decanting this if you're going to try a bottle on release. Otherwise there is outstanding energy and freshness to the bigger and slightly richer medium-bodied flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the delicious and balanced finale.

Once again relatively strong reduction pushes the underlying fruit to the background. There is however plenty of verve, concentration and intensity to the overtly citrus-inflected middle weight flavors along with ample minerality that also serves to add a sense of lift to the firm, complex, balanced and impressively persistent finale. This lovely effort will require a few years of cellar time as it's presently notably tight.
