Founded in 1970, Domaine Marc Colin established the domaine with his wife Michele and owns 20 hectares of vineyards covering Santenay, Saint-Aubin, Puligny Montrachet and Chassagne Montrachet. Over the last five decades, Marc Colin remains a fantastic producer of excellent value Burgundy whites which are lean and mineral-driven in styles. The domaine is now handed over to Marc Colin’s three children, Damien, Joseph and Caroline. The eldest son, Pierre-Yves took out his share of the vineyards and started his personal venture with his wife in the early 2000s, and now become a high sought-after producer of top and premium Burgundy.
The top cuvee is Montrachet Grand Cru which is from a .11 ha parcel of 75+ year-old vines on the Chassagne side. From Allen Meadows ' point of view, it is one of the best white in 2017 while the champion is Domaine de la Romanee Conti Montrachet (Market Price HK$97,116 per bottle^) which was awarded 97 pts and Marc Colin Montrachet gets the runner-up position with a stunning 96pts. The equally restrained mineral reduction-inflected nose is comprised by green apple, honeysuckle and lavender aromas that are tinged with hints of wood spice. The impressively rich, powerful and intense flavors are not quite as concentrated as those of the Bâtard but the hugely long, compact and dazzlingly complex finish makes it abundantly clear that this is going to require extended cellaring in a cool cellar. In sum, this is a terrific Montrachet built for the long haul.
