The profile of the fresh and cool aromas immediately signals that this could be from nowhere else but Vosne with its hints of star anise, sandalwood, soy and red cherry scents. The texture of the medium weight flavors is gorgeous, mostly thanks to the admirably fine-grained tannins that also shape the balanced, complex and sneaky long finish. This is lovely and a wine that should be approachable after only 5-ish years.

Offering up aromas of plums, rose petals, orange zest and spices, the 2021 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes is medium to full-bodied, bright and charming, its pretty core of fruit framed by powdery tannins and lively acids. This is a perfumed, immediate Chaumes in the making.

An exuberantly spicy, slightly fresh and decidedly cooler nose combines with floral nuances, and in particular rose petal, to add both elegance and complexity to the pure dark currant and cherry scents. There is lovely energy and delineation to the caressing, sleek and precise, indeed even chiseled, medium weight flavors that possess very fine depth on the well-balanced and mineral-inflected finale where the only nit is again a hint of warmth.
