Just arrived this week, we are delighted to offer a parcel of rare Domaine de la Vougeraie Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2002. The vines were located from an exceptionally well positioned 1 ha parcel situated directly beneath Les Petits Musigny and was managed by Pascal Marchard who later established Maison Marchand-Tawse.
 
2002 is definitely a sheer and successful vintage for Domaine de la Vougeraie and Pascal Marchard, Allen Meadows mentioned that “all of the Vougeraie '02s are most impressive“ and described the Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru “superb density”, “elegant”, “refinded” and “plenty of character”. Sadly, there are only 6 magnums available so once these have been sold it will be difficult to source in future.

While not invisible, much more discreet notes of toasty and spicy oak highlight pungent, high-pitched blackberry and cassis notes. The flavors though are somber, youthfully vibrant and austere with superb density. This is classic in style with a very firm finish that will require time to harmonize and soften. Still, this is an elegant, relatively refined young Clos de Vougeot with plenty of character.
