Founded in 1982 by Jim Clendenen who had a huge impact on Santa Barbara wine culture by helping transform the region from a source of anonymous grapes into a popular world-class wine destination, Au Bon Climat is one of the most famous winery in Santa Barbara which known for elegant, Burgundian-style Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Last week, we sampled a bottle of 2022 Au Bon Climat Nuits-Blanches au Bouge “Like Minds” Chardonnay and it was brilliant. It comes from old-vines blocks such as “K” and “M” are part of the original plantings at Bien Nacido in 1973. It is a distinguished expression of Bien Nacido Vineyard, crafted to showcase the depth, precision, and age-worthiness of old-vine Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay. Hand-harvested fruit from select blocks is whole-cluster pressed and fermented in 100% new French oak, then matured on lees to build texture and complexity while preserving the wine’s natural brightness.
The Au Bon Climat Nuits-Blanches au Bouge Chardonnay also comes with a distinguished name in every vintage, which makes this fantastic white meaningful and collectible.

A barrel-selection blend based around Bien Nacido, the 2022 Chardonnay Nuits-Blanches au Bouge deftly balances a full-throttled core with equal measure of drive and vibrancy. Opening with a lifted bouquet of fennel, pastry cream and macadamia nuts with a stone-fruited core, the palate is broad and punchy before concluding with a sappy, pure and saline finish.
