It is located at the mouth of the Combe de Lavaut so that it receives cool breeze from the mountain, it is a steep slope with high elevation which sits above Chambertin and Clos de Beze Grand Cru. With debates over the years whether Clos Saint-Jacques should be promoted to Grand Cru, It has been already regarded as a extraordinary terroir which produces some of the best Gevrey Chambertin in the world.

An equally fresh if perhaps not quite as ripe nose of red fruit and mineral-infused aromas of surpassing complexity introduce delicious, intense and slightly firmer medium full flavors that culminate in a subtly persistent finish. This is refined and exceptionally pure and while it is on the lighter side, the focus, detail and precision is extremely impressive. Like the Ruchottes, this trades on elegance and refinement yet there is no lack of flavor authority despite the absence of raw size and weight.

This is quite firmly reduced and all that can be discerned is the wood treatment. More interesting are the delicious, complex and beautifully layered middle weight flavors that brim with both minerality and dry extract. The powerful, focused and grippy finish makes it very clear that this robust and mildly rustic effort should age well for years. Note that my rating assumes that the reduction will eventually dissipate though at 10 years of age it's worth pointing out that this may not occur.
