One of our constant favourites of Chardonnay producers from Burgundy and for many others around the world too, Domaine Leflaive has been an eminent winemaker in the world of wines which has been continuously producing astounding Chardonnay from Puligny-Montrachet for many decades. Madame Anne-Claude Leflaive built a strong reputation for the label under her careful and special attention in the vineyard, making some of the most fruit-forward and terroir-expressive wines that are worthy to be added to every wine collector's cellar since taking over from her father in 1994. Sadly Anne-Claude passed away in 2015 and Brice de La Morandière, Anne-Claude's nephew and great grandson of Joseph Leflaive the founder, has taken over carrying on with the same family philosophy of respect for the great ''terroirs'', humility towards the forces of nature and rigorous in it's relentless pursuit of excellence in wine making.

Even after 5 years the nose remains restrained but exceptionally elegant and pure with aromas of white flower, green apple, pear and wet stone. There is plenty of minerality to the rich, full and highly energetic flavors that tighten up considerably on the detailed, minerally and moderately dry finish that displays distinct citrus and mineral nuances. This is still quite tight and linear with huge amounts of dry extract that renders the very firm acid spine almost invisible at present though the long finish is clearly shaped by it. This magnificent Chevalier is now knocking on the door of its full maturity though I stress that there is no rush to drink up as this should hold well for years. Tasted many times with consistent results with those bottles that are not premoxed but I have had five bottles opened in March and April 2019, and another in May 2022, that were.
