Arrive this week: Bordering La Tache, Forey Vosne Romanee Les Gaudichots 1er Cru 2023

In Vosne-Romanee, there is a 0.30ha parcel of Les Gaudichots 1er Cru which borders the world-famous La Tache Grand Cru. Due to its exceptional terroir being in close proximity to La Tache and its much lower price point, Les Gaudichots has gained a lot of attention in recent years. The vineyard's history is rather complicated having many owners over the years which each have fought to get ownership of the neighbouring La Tache, and in 1932, a compromise was found and some of the original Gaudichots vineyards was annexed to La Tache. Therefore, there are only three small sections of Les Gaudichots that remain, and are divided among six owners such as Domaine Forey and Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, but none possess more than a quarter of a hectare. Domaine Forey is the only one of the few owners that farms and bottles wines from this parcel. Some other producers that bottles wines from here are Marchand de Gramont, DRC (that uses the grapes for their Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru) and Dujac (that uses the grapes for their Malconsorts), hence Domaine Forey is the very few places where you can taste this particular Premier Cru that situates so closely to La Tache at a huge fraction of the price (less than 10% of a La Tache!). However, due to their size of ownership, production of this wine is extremely limited. 

The new vintage is released just now and there is over 10% of price down compared with Vintage 2022. Price looks very sharp to secure at this early moment so that we are delighted to offer:

A spicier if otherwise similar nose of relatively high-toned red berry fruit and soft floral wisps gives way to unusually supple if beautifully textured flavors that exude even more evident minerality on the youthfully austere and bitter pit-fruit-inflected finish that is more clearly built-to-age. As such, at least some patience should be beneficial.
